GULMARG

Gulmarg, often referred to as the “Meadow of Flowers,” is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India, located in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Perched at an altitude of about 2,650 meters (8,694 feet) above sea level, Gulmarg is surrounded by lush green meadows, dense forests of pine and fir, and snow-capped peaks of the Pir Panjal range. It is a year-round destination known for its breathtaking natural beauty, adventure sports, and romantic charm.

One of Gulmarg’s main highlights is the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world. It takes visitors up to Apharwat Peak, at an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters, offering spectacular views of the Himalayas and access to some of the best skiing slopes in Asia. In winter, Gulmarg transforms into a snowy paradise, attracting skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts from across the globe. The powdery snow and challenging terrains make it a top winter sports destination in India.

In summer, the meadows of Gulmarg come alive with colorful wildflowers, making it ideal for nature walks, pony rides, and photography. Treks like the Alpathar Lake trek and walks through the Khilanmarg region are popular among adventure seekers and nature lovers. The crisp mountain air and peaceful surroundings make it a refreshing escape from city life.

Gulmarg is also home to the Gulmarg Golf Course, one of the highest green golf courses in the world. Spread over rolling hills and surrounded by majestic pine trees, it offers a unique playing experience for golf lovers. Nearby attractions include St. Mary’s Church, a beautiful heritage site built during the British era, and Maharani Temple, located on a small hilltop.

Though a small town, Gulmarg has several comfortable hotels and resorts offering panoramic views and cozy stays. Whether you’re visiting in winter for snow activities or in summer to enjoy the blooms and green meadows, Gulmarg never fails to impress with its magical scenery and tranquil atmosphere.
